Heat Recovery in Supply Ventilation: Does It Pay Off in Uzbekistan?

When heat recovery really cuts cooling and heating load — and when it is unnecessary complexity.

A recuperator transfers energy from exhaust to supply air (winter preheat, summer pre-cooling where the layout allows). In Uzbekistan’s hot summers and cool winters, payback depends on runtime: offices and plants with steady 12+ hour makeup air gain more than rarely ventilated buildings.

Plate exchangers are simpler to service, typically 50–70 % effectiveness, no cross-contamination — good for healthcare and food. Rotary units reach higher efficiency but need odor/moisture control; summer bypass is mandatory at +40 °C or the rotor fights your cooling coil.

Compare against the real alternative: electric heater or full-duty cooling on all outdoor air without recovery. Higher airflow and longer annual hours shorten payback. Small offices with short schedules may see long returns — insulation and scheduling sometimes suffice.

Install needs balanced supply/exhaust routing, condensate drainage on cooled supply and frost protection in winter. Controls must manage summer bypass, icing and filter clogging — otherwise efficiency collapses while power draw rises.
